Sodexo at UMKC has a new addition leading the dining services team.

J.P. Singh, new general manager for Sodexo, brings 35 years of experience to UMKC. He officially starts September 1, 2010.

Singh started with Sodexo as a dishwasher at a college in the small town of Chadron, Nebraska.

After graduating from Chadron College, Singh took

a management position and was transferred to New York City to work for another 15 years.

He worked his way up through management positions with different departments throughout the company.

In 1991, Singh left New York City for the Midwest again, working and assisting with opening new Sodexo locations in Nebraska, in Dayton, Ohio, OshKosh, Wisconsin, as well as Marquette University and Greenville College in Illinois.

Singh’s immediate goals at UMKC are simple.

“I’d like to assist in getting the [Student Union] open the right way, and I hear students are looking for some different food options,” Singh said. “So those are my two main goals starting out.”

Overall, his plans are more centralized to UMKC.

Over the next year Singh would like to “work with student organizations closely and bring more of the catering business to the departments at UMKC instead of them using outside companies.”

Singh wants Sodexo and Dining Services to be a “one stop shop” for UMKC as a whole.

Singh has an open personality and is eager to get started full-time at UMKC.

“I’m always open for suggestions and ideas,” Singh said. “It makes my job easier.”

Singh came to the U.S. from India in 1973.

Singh is married and has two daughters attending graduate programs in Nebraska.

As of print date, Singh had not been given an email address or permanent office location as they were in the process of moving.

Until September 1, he may be reached by email at jatinder.singh@sodexo.com or call Dining Services at 816-235-1077.
