Although UMKC started strong against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Saturday, in the end the Roos fell in four sets.
The first set started well for UMKC. The final score of the first set was close, 25-23, with UMKC emerging victorious.
The second set was similar to the first, though UTRGV won 26-24.
Things did not look up in the third set. UMKC lost 25-14. The fourth and final set was closer, but UMKC again fell to UTRGV.
Ali Schomers had 28 assists in the fourth set, and Alex Ratzlaff had 10 digs in the second set. Alicia Harrington had a share of good points for UMKC.
Ali Schomers commented after the game.
“I think Ty Lukes played really well,” she said.
She said that such a feat was all the more remarkable since Ty recently missed a couple of games due to a concussion.
The Lady Roos face off against Chicago State on Thursday.
