Cross Country fares well in WAC Championships

The cross country teams gave an amazing performance at the Western Athletic Conference Championships held in Edinburg, Tex., this weekend. Both the men’s and women’s team finished third out of eight total teams.

Senior First Team All-WAC runner Courtney Frerichs made history by winning her first WAC Championship in the women’s 5K with a personal best time of 16:52 – the second fastest time in WAC history.

Frerichs outstanding performance earned her the title WAC Female Athlete of the Year. Chandler Carreon, Kelly Carpenter and Sarah Fogarty also earned honors as they were named to the Second Team All-WAC.

As for the men, seniors Kolton Sheldon and Taylor Wardall recorded their best performances of the season by finishing second and third in the men’s 8K race and were named First Team All-WAC.

Next, the Kangaroos will head to Peoria, Illinois on Friday for the NCAA Midwest Regional competition.
