The UMKC cross country teams gave an impressive performance at the NCAA Midwest Regionals on Friday in Peoria, Ill. The men’s squad finished 23rd with 632 points, and the women’s team scored 533 points to come in at 20th out of the 35 teams that competed.
Senior All-Region honoree Courtney Frerichs took first place in the 6k race with a time of 19:58. Frerichs’ nearest opponent finished nine seconds later. Frerichs’ time was the second fastest in Newman Golf Course history.
Frerichs will be the only Kangaroo to return to the action on Nov. 22 when she travels to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Championships hosted by Indiana State University.
Freshman Chandler Carreon, and sophomores Sarah Fogarty and Kelly Carpenter all set personal bests. Carreon finished 101st with a time of 21:47, Fogarty finished 213th at 22:16 and Carpenter finished 357th at 32:09.
On the men’s squad, Kolton Sheldon led the ’Roos, finishing 49th with a time of 31:00 in the 10K race, followed by freshman Quinlan Moll in 172nd with a time of 32:08.
