Close but not close enough–UMKC falls to Grand Canyon

A standout performance by Isiah Ross in the second half wasn’t enough against a more formidable Grand Canyon men’s team for the Roos this Saturday at the Municipal Auditorium.

Led by a significant size/height advantage, GCU was able to prevent an attempt or two to gain the lead or at least tie, especially in the second half, by the UMKC Men’s Basketball team.

UMKC tried to keep the game close, and had sporadic success in its attempts.

Ross led the team in terms of three pointers, making half of his attempts (4-8). While Ross had an impressive second half, Xavier Bishop led the team with 23 points.

The game itself had a bit of tension on occasion, and tension almost erupted with a double technical foul call on both teams near the very end of the game. By then, however, the game was already decided in GCU’s favor.

As glum as the result might seem, there were a few noteworthy signposts for UMKC, who led in terms of 3-pointers. Ross was a big reason why UMKC came within a few points in the second half.

UMKC has two upcoming games at Municipal, against William Jewell on Tuesday and against New Mexico State on Saturday. Both are evening games.
