The Campus Ambassadors program brings Roo pride to the UMKC campus as they show prospective students the campus. Alumni and Constituent Relations originally sponsored this program, but only to work events.

In 1994, students from the Office of Admissions acted as tour guides, and in turn helped recruit students for the university.

In 1999, both programs came together to form the organization seen today.

The Campus Ambassadors not only give tours of the campus and recruit students, but also help usher at university-sponsored events.

In addition, students who serve as Campus Ambassadors receive a scholarship.

“I like having the opportunity to listen to prospective students and find out what profession they want to get into. It make visits a lot more fun and I believe the student will remember their visit a lot more when that happens,” junior Bradley New said.

The Campus Ambassadors bring true passion to their work for UMKC.

“I bring a lot of loyalty and a lot of pride. The more you know about this school, the more respect and appreciation you gain for it. It’s not hard to recruit students when you genuinely do love your school,” senior Danielle Dwyer said.

Dwyer has been a Campus Ambassador since her freshman year in 2007.

“I enjoy being an Ambassador because of the variety of people you get to meet and make memorable experiences with. I love walking on campus and being waved to by people that you met when they were in high school and still remember you,” Dwyer said.

Students can apply to be a Campus Ambassador starting second semester freshman year. Applications are available mid-January.

The deadline to submit an application to the Office of Admission this year will be March 1, 2011.

To be considered for the program, a student must be a full-time undergraduate student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

“We look for students who are bright, outgoing, friendly and want to help UMKC get the best possible student.  It is always a plus to have students that are involved in other organizations on campus but it is definitely not a necessity,” said the manager of the Campus Ambassadors, Maya Mapp.

The Campus Ambassadors have helped recruit many students to UMKC.
