The Subaru Minority Student Scholarship Program offers $1,500 to minority students within the Geosciences Department
Subaru of America Inc. has partnered with The Geological Society of America (GSA) to create a scholarship for minority GSA students within the academic discipline of Geosciences titled The Subaru Minority Student Scholarship Program.
The scholarship will provide $1,500 to one student in each of the seven GSA sections as nominated by the GSA campus representatives.
These funds are to be used for academic purposes such as purchasing text books, attending GSA field trips and conferences, or paying any other college expenses.
In addition to the scholarship, each student chosen will receive a free student membership within GSA for 2012, along with the dismissal of the meeting registration for this year’s GSA Annual Meeting which will be held in Minneapolis, Minn.
Requirements for nominations are as listed by The Subaru Minority Student Scholarship Program:
To qualify for the GSA minority scholarship, applicants must be a U.S. citizen and member of a minority group, must have taken at least two introductory first year geosciences courses and must be enrolled in additional geosciences courses for the upcoming school year.
Applicants must be a current undergraduate student of GSA in good academic standing.
The U.S. Census Bureau describes a minority as being of Hispanic or Latino, African-American or Black, Asian, American Indian, Alaskan Native or Hawaiian Native/Pacific Islander ethnicity/race.
