After two wins Friday, Softball falls to CSU Bakersfield

After a decent performance on Friday, winning both games in doubleheader against CSU Bakersfield, UMKC was unable to carry the momentum into Saturday for a third game against the Roadrunners. They lost the game, 10-6.

UMKC started the game strong, ahead by 2-0 in the first inning, thanks in part to an impressive home run to left field.

The Roadrunners quickly turned the tide with six runs in the top of the second inning. UMKC’s pitching, which had done well the previous inning, gradually fell apart. Lindsay Connor took pitching for the Roos and was able to minimize the damage inflicted by the Roadrunners.

There was an attempt at a late rally in the later innings, but it fell short. UMKC could simply not muster enough offense to catch up from a 10-3 deficit. In the bottom of the sixth, UMKC had the bases loaded with no outs, but was unable to take the lead.

Coach Meredith Smith Neal expressed disappointment when asked about Saturday’s performance.

“It’s a shame we couldn’t do it today,” she said, referring back to Friday’s doubleheader wins.

Friday’s wins were the only two in a series of losses over the past few weeks.

UMKC plays Grand Canyon in Phoenix, AZ next weekend, for a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday.
