Taylor Book joins UMKC as the Director of Swinney Recreation Center.
Book is a student affairs professional who enjoys collaborating with the campus community to improve their quality of life through health and wellness activities.
A native of Virginia, Book received his master’s degree in Sport and Recreation Leadership from James Madison University, a leader in student development and learning outcomes in collegiate recreation. From there, he went on to serve as the coordinator and then assistant director of Campus Recreation as well as an adjunct professor for the Health and Exercise Science Department at Wake Forest University and the Therapeutic Recreation Department at Winston-Salem State University.
While at Wake Forest, Book spearheaded the student employment and data and assessment work groups. His teams played an integral part in finding a positive correlation with first-year student retention rates and their participation in intramural sports and facilitated data-informed decisions when planning the $58 million WFU Wellbeing Center transformation project.
Book’s past experiences with high-functioning collegiate recreation programs has provided valuable insight that he is excited to apply in his work with UMKC. He looks forward to joining the Roos and believes UMKC deserves comprehensive wellness opportunities that engage the campus community.
