Oh Ryeong Ha, Ph.D., assistant professor, and the UMKC Child Laboratory in the UMKC Department of Psychology, is seeking volunteers for two studies involving children between the ages of 5 and 12. These studies examine healthy food choices and sharing behaviors in children.

Healthy Food Choices

This research team is investigating how learning about televised food commercials influences food choices for children. The study visit is two times during a one-week period. This study is conducted in collaboration with Amanda Bruce, Ph.D., and her lab. If interested in this study, please email hkillian@kumc.edu.

Qualifications:

  • Children need to be between the ages of 8 and 12
  • Participants must speak English as their primary language

Compensation:

  • Participants will be paid $50 per child for completion of the study.

Prosocial Behavior Decision-Making

This study will investigate the development of prosocial behaviors, specifically sharing. This study will require approximately one, two-hour visit to campus. If interested in this study, please email umkc.child@gmail.com.

Qualifications:

  • Children need to be between the ages of 5 and 8
  • Mothers must be 18 years or older
  • Participants must speak English as their primary language
  • Participants should be in good mental and physical health

Compensation:

  • A child and mother pair will be paid with a $40 dollar gift card for completing the study. (If more than one child participates, the mother will receive an additional $20 per sibling.)
  • Child will receive a souvenir t-shirt.
