Local Professional Development Opportunities For Faculty, Staff


UMKC is a member of the Kansas City Professional Development Council. UMKC membership provides faculty and staff access to special topics workshops, two certificate programs and two conference opportunities at no cost to your department. Advanced registration through the UMKC Office of Human Resources is required. The program guide and calendar is available online.

KCPDC is a consortium of 10 area colleges and universities that pool funds to provide a variety of programs.

  • Professional Development Conference
  • Supervisor Development Program (certificate program)
  • Special Topic Workshops (standalone workshops on a variety of topics)
  • Enhancing Teaching and Learning Conference
  • Faculty Development Program- Faculty Academy (certificate program)

The Faculty Development Program includes a new, single-day format for the core program, Foundations of Teaching Excellence, an Advanced Elements of Teaching Excellence workshop and the annual Enhancing Teaching and Learning Conference in the spring. UMKC will host the spring Foundations of Teaching Excellence Feb. 8, 2020.

The Supervisor Development Program certificate includes six core courses and KCPDC electives. This is a great opportunity to learn and network with higher education colleagues. The first course in the series is Critical Skills for Supervisors from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 10 at Johnson County Community College.
