Two UMKC deans accepted new positions with other organizations this month and one dean will retire next month.
John Herron, Ph.D., interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, has accepted the position of director of the Kansas City Public Library, succeeding R. Crosby Kemper III. He will begin his tenure there in early July. Information about interim dean for the College of Arts and Sciences will be announced in the coming weeks.
Justin Perry, Ph.D., dean of the School of Education, has accepted the position of dean of the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College at Florida Atlantic University. Carolyn Barber, Ph.D., associate dean and professor in the Division of Educational Leadership, Policy and Foundations at the UMKC School of Education, will serve as interim dean.
Bonnie Postlethwaite, dean of UMKC University Libraries, will retire on July 11. Cindy Thompson, associate dean of Services and Resources at UMKC Libraries, will serve as interim dean.
“John and Justin have contributed much to our university and our community during their time as part of our UMKC family and Bonnie has a long history of administrative service to UMKC and its complex libraries’ system,” said Jenny Lundgren, provost and executive vice chancellor. “They will be missed. Please join me in wishing John and Justin well in their new opportunities and congratulations to Bonnie on her retirement.”
