Ellen Suni to Receive Missouri Bar Foundation President’s Award

Professor and Dean Emerita Ellen Y. Suni will receive a President’s Award for meritorious service to the Missouri Bar. She will be recognized, along with several award-winning UMKC alumni, at The Missouri Bar Foundation and Public Service Awards Luncheon, Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Suni served as dean of the UMKC School of Law from 2004-2017. Under her leadership, the school strengthened its entrepreneurial spirit while still focusing on creating a culture of professionals who continue to serve the community. During her tenure, the law school opened one of the first solo and small firm incubators in the country, expanded lab classes to become nationally recognized for practical law school curriculum, and expanded and strengthened several clinics that serve the community.

“Dean Suni led the law school to be one of the most innovative, forward-thinking, and practical programs in the country today,” said Dean Barb Glesner Fines upon Suni’s retirement from deanship.

Though Suni retired from her role as dean, she continues to serve as a teaching professor at the School of Law.
