Carol Hintz, vice chancellor of human resources, has been selected as the recipient of the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) 2020 Distinguished Service Award. This award is given to a CUPA-HR member who has provided outstanding service to the association through constituent activities, such as service in governance or leadership roles, or through professional development contributions in support of the association. Thanks to the generous support of Kronos Incorporated, CUPA-HR is pleased to offer a $4,000 contribution to the UMKC SPEER Fund – The Staff Professional Enrichment Fund.

In 2011, Hintz was selected to participate in the Emerging CUPA-HR Leader program, which prepares a select group of higher ed HR professionals for leadership roles within the association. After that time, she served in multiple positions on the CUPA-HR Midwest Region board of directors, including chair and representative on the national board of directors. She has served on CUPA-HR’s learning and professional development committee, and the budget and finance committee. In recent years, she has become involved in the Emerging CUPA-HR Leader program as a program chair and guide, helping to identify and lead other higher ed HR professionals into leadership positions with the association.

“Carol brings a unique perspective, expressing herself with candor and tact, and empowering other professionals to do the same in spreading the importance of HR,” said Kelli Shuman, associate vice president and chief human resources officer at Elon University and current chair of the Emerging CUPA-HR Leaders program. “Those of us who serve with her, as well as the CUPA-HR membership as a whole, have the great privilege of learning and growing from her leadership.”

The Staff Professional Enrichment Fund supports qualified staff by reinforcing their competencies and strengthening their talents and abilities. This fund can be used to help cover registration fees and travel costs for professional development opportunities, such as conferences, conventions, summits, seminars and professional development materials/tools.
