Earth Month Opportunities and Celebrations 2013

Yes!  The snow has subsided and the sun is shining and the weather is gently warming.  It’s that time of year to celebrate EARTH Month by getting your hands in the dirt so that you can grow that green thumb or at the very least watch a movie or recycle.    There are a lot of opportunities to celebrate from volunteer service days and work days to movies, meeting, festivals and recycling events.  So take your pick.

Below is a compilation of some of the opportunities to engage in both on campus and in the broader community.  Happy Earth Month!!!!

On Campus:

UMKC Garden Collective 2013 Kick-Off Sun, April 7th 10am – 1pm at  The garden (backyard of 5306 Holmes)
SWITCH-Discover the Future of Energy Movie at the UMKC Student Union Theater on Tuesday, April 16, at 4:00pm (FREE)
UMKC Sustainability Team Meeting, Wednesday, April, 17th at 2pm -3pm in the Plaza Room of the AC Building (Everyone Welcome!)
UMKC Spring Service Day Tuesday, April 23rd – Volker – 8 am – 12 pm and Hosp. Hill – 12 – 4 pm (Sign up for a 2 hour shift!)

In the Community:

PV Earth Fest at Shawnee Mission East: Saturday, April 13th from 10-3 (FREE)
City of Mission Recycling E-vent: Saturday, April 13th from 8-noon (Some Fees May Apply)
Bridging the Gap Earth Walk at City Market Park located at 3rd and Main: Saturday, April 20th registration starting at 8am, Walk Begin 9am
Recycling Extravaganza: Saturday April 27th from 8-2
