UMKC offers Student Health Insurance because we believe that all students should have health insurance coverage.

Aetna Student Health offers the University of Missouri – Kansas City (UMKC) a Student Health Insurance Plan. Aetna works with UMKC and Student Health and Wellness (SHW) to provide you with student health insurance coverage when you need it.  For information regarding this plan, visit the Aetna Student Health website.

DEADLINE TO ENROLL or RE-ENROLL IN THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL PLAN YEAR IS 9/7/2018

Please note that if you enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan in the 2017-2018 school plan year and want to continue coverage, you will need to re-enroll for the 2018-2019 school plan year.

Domestic Students: Your Student Health Insurance Plan Coverage is 8/15/18 – 8/14/19
All registered students taking credit hours including graduate students and graduate students holding assistantships are eligible to enroll in the Plan. Students participating in an internship or other practical training programs are also eligible to enroll in the Plan. Online degree-seeking students are also eligible to enroll.

International Students: Your Student Health Insurance Plan Coverage 8/1/18 – 7/31/19
Eligibility

All non-immigrant international students, scholars and Optional Practical Training/Academic Training (OPT) participants holding F or J visas attending UMKC are eligible for this coverage. Enrollment in this Plan is mandatory and automatic for all nonimmigrant international students upon academic enrollment each semester.

Scholars and OPT Participants:

Enrollment for Scholars and post-completion Optional Practical Training/Academic Training (OPT) participants is optional and requires completion of an enrollment form each term. Visiting Scholars may obtain enrollment forms at the International Student Affairs Office. OPT students may enroll online at www.aetnastudenthealth.com, choose the University of Missouri – Kansas City, click on View Your School and click on the Enroll link on the left hand side of the screen.

  • Vital Savings is not tied to medical – anyone can enroll, even those not buying medical.  The coverage dates are standardized for all schools – the “plan year” for Vital Savings runs from 9/1/2018-8/31/2019.
  • Students enroll online at aetnastudenthealth.com for the program
  • To find dentists – On DocFind, you would select Dentists; Primary Care; Search by Zip Code or City; Select “Vital Savings” under Select a Plan.

All UMKC students are eligible to use Student Health and Wellness regardless of their insurance status. When necessary, Student Health can refer students to a specialist in their insurance network.

Students With Insurance

  • Visits with associated fees require payment at the time of service.
  • Cash, check, or student account are acceptable forms of payment.
  • Upon request, our front desk personnel can provide a receipt of payment, which can be submitted to your insurance carrier by you or the subscriber.

Students Without Insurance

  • Visits with associated fees require payment at the time of service.
  • Cash, check, or student account are acceptable forms of payment.

Important Insurance Information Students Need to Know

  • Make sure you have a basic understanding of your coverage.
  • Make sure you carry a copy of your insurance card at all times.
