Kaye Johnston

Kaye Johnston is the UMKC Sustainability Coordinator in Campus Facilities and has been working at UMKC since 2007. She enjoys working in an academic environment with students, faculty and staff and enjoys the lifetime learning as a culture.

She serves as the Vice Chair of Staff Council on the Executive Board and is on the Events and Professional Development committees. As a member of Staff Council, Johnston has enjoyed being a part of the reorganization of the council and the rewriting of the by-laws. “I thought it would be exciting and rewarding to take part in the newly established Staff Council,” said Johnston.

Outside of Staff Council, Johnston is a doctoral graduate student in the Geosciences and Block School of Public Administration. She enjoys reading, gardening, performing music, traveling, cooking and gathering with family and friends.

Maya Mapp

Maya Mapp is the manager for the Welcome Center in the Office of Admissions and has been working to recruit our wonderful UMKC students since September 2010. She loves interacting with the students and watching them grow, especially in getting to work with the student Ambassadors.

She serves as the Vice Chair of Membership on the Executive Board and is on the Events and Professional Development committees. As a member of Staff Council, she likes being on the forefront of new policies and programs for staff at UMKC. Staff Council allows her to be a leader in voicing her opinion on things that will affect her and her coworkers, as well as staff across campus.

Outside of UMKC, Mapp plays on a professional volleyball team in Kansas City. She also enjoys shopping, traveling, and spending time with her two dogs, the “giants”.

As the Vice Chair of Membership, Mapp wants to remind you all to NOMINATE staff members you think would be good voting members for Staff Council!

Carla Heins

Carla Heins works in the Division of University Advancement as the Manager of Business and Fiscal Operations.  Her responsibilities include all aspects of finance, budget and human resources.  She also handles the same responsibilities for the Division of Strategic Marketing and Communications. Heins first worked at UMKC for over 13 years starting in March of 1985. After being a part of Kansas City’s Sesquicentennial Celebration in 2000 for two years, she chose to return to UMKC. Now she’s been back for almost another 13 years, and almost 26 years total.

On Staff Council, Heins serves on the Treasurer on the Executive Board and is co-chair of the Recognition Committee and a member of the Advocacy Committee. She believes it is important to become fully engaged and she wants to commit to do what she can for the betterment of all staff. Except for her first year at UMKC, she has been employed in the same department, where she works with a great group of people, who are all team players and are like a close-knit family.  You don’t find that everywhere.

Outside of work, Heins has recently returned to reading. She also likes to spend time with her family and to ice fish in Minnesota inside a fish house, snowmobile, and fish outside when the weather is nice. She has two dogs and three granddogs that she loves to play with.
