The impact of Kansas City’s Guadalupanas (Latina religious group) on their Westside neighborhood has been considerable since this religious organization of Mexican American women was founded nearly 80 years ago. It is responsible for preserving the historic church of Our Lady of Guadalupe., which is a Westside landmark. UMKC Latina/Latino Studies and Sociology Associate Professor examines the history and legacy of these remarkable women. They worked as agents for change despite their gender-limited roles within both church and community.
