Optimizing Your 40-Hour Week: Strategies for Smarter Program Coordination
June 17, 2026 • 2:00 – 3:00 PM CT
Presenters:
Sarah Amos
Institution:
University of Missouri – Kansas City & International Center for Supplemental Instruction
Description:
Coordinating and sustaining an SI program requires balancing a wide range of responsibilities, including scheduling, communication, hiring, observations, meetings, data tracking, and ongoing leader development. While all programs invest significant time into supporting and developing SI Leaders through observations, coaching, and training, these responsibilities can become even more demanding for programs pursuing or maintaining accreditation standards.
This webinar will explore the tasks that most commonly consume supervisors’ time and examine practical strategies for creating a more efficient and sustainable workflow. Participants will reflect on meeting structures, delegation practices, staffing models, communication systems, and scheduling approaches that can help reduce work overload while still maintaining strong program quality and leader support. Leave this webinar with practical ideas for simplifying program operations to build a schedule that better supports both program goals and work-life balance.

The Hidden Curriculum of SI Leadership
June 17, 2026 • 2:00 – 3:00 PM CT
Presenters:
Robbie Lyons & Annika Wong
Institution:
University of California, San Diego
Description:
Supplemental Instruction (SI) is often highlighted for its impact on student learning, retention, and success. However, some of the most transformational outcomes of SI may be the ones that are hardest to measure.
We know that SI Leaders develop important skills related to leadership, facilitation, and communication, but if we look closer we start to see other skills that are less obvious, including adaptability, emotional regulation, reflective judgment, and conflict navigation.
The goal of this webinar is to reflect on how SI Leaders’ everyday facilitation experiences cultivate skills that are deeply human, relational, and transferable. As supervisors, this can inform the way we mentor, guide, and prepare our student staff for life after graduation. Together we will examine what is possible when we view peer education not only as a student job, but as a meaningful experience in professional development.

SI Supervisor: Provost of the Mini Campus
July 1, 2026 • 2:00 – 3:00 PM CT
Presenters:
Janice Levasseur & Jenny Wells
Institution:
East Tennessee State University & University of Tennessee at Chattanooga
Description:
As SI Supervisors, our jobs are multi-faceted and we wear many hats. Our job descriptions tell part of the story but how well do they convey what we actually do on a daily basis? Does the SI Supervisor mirror a university provost? Human resource specialist? Facilities technician? Professional Mentor? Life Coach?
In this session we will explore the intricacies of the SI Supervisor’s role by examining it through a university organizational structure in a fun light-hearted conversation. Join us as we align our job summaries with reality of what is required to accomplish our SI program goals. Together, we will leverage new insights to advocate for ourselves and programs at each of our universities.

Training SI Leaders in Inclusive Facilitation Using Universal Design Learning (UDL) Principles
July 8, 2026 • 2:00 – 3:00 PM CT
Presenters:
Chanté Hearn
Institution:
University of Missouri – Kansas City & International Center for Supplemental Instruction
Description:
This webinar introduces how SI supervisors can train SI leaders to facilitate sessions that support all learners through intentional and flexible design. The session will begin with an overview of what Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is and how it reduces barriers in the learning process. It supports a learning environment where information is shared in different ways, students engage with course content in a variety of ways, and students have multiple means for showing what they know.
From there, the webinar will connect UDL to SI facilitation strategies and explore how supervisors can help SI leaders apply these principles when planning and leading sessions. Rather than relying on a single approach to facilitation, SI leaders can be trained to design sessions that are more accessible for all students.
The session will also highlight how UDL aligns closely with the SI model as a whole, reinforcing its focus on collaborative learning, active engagement, and student-centered support.

Leaning on and Building Your Leaders
July 22, 2026 • 2:00 – 3:00 PM CT
Presenters:
Samantha Futhey
Institution:
University of Idaho
Description:
Our SI Leaders bring diverse interests, talents, and skills to the job, so why not give them the opportunity to further develop their skills? This webinar will discuss leader-led initiatives that support SI program development and community building, particularly for smaller SI programs or programs with few dedicated professional staff. Leader-led initiatives also help build their professional skill set, incorporate creativity into their work, and foster program buy-in. Coordinators will have time to discuss their own leader-led initiatives and identify potential leader-led initiatives for their programs

Innovating SI Training: A Scalable Hybrid Model for Growing Programs
July 29, 2026 • 2:00 – 3:00 PM CT
Presenters:
Mandy McGrew and Christian Wiggins
Institution:
Kennesaw State University
Description:
As growing SI programs face space limitations, expanding cohorts, and constrained budgets, scalable training models have become essential. At our large public R2 institution, we transitioned from a two-day in-person SI Leader training to a hybrid model that reduced payroll costs by 25%, food expenses by 50%, alleviated space challenges, and increased accessibility for SI Leaders navigating campus commitments.
This webinar will explore the design process behind a scalable hybrid training model anchored by a four-hour asynchronous training, as well as get hands-on experience with components of our online course and engage in collaborative problem-solving around common training obstacles. Attendees of this session will leave with adaptable strategies for increasing efficiency, reducing training costs, and maintaining high-quality SI preparation across diverse institutional contexts.

#nofilter: The Hidden Burnout Undermining Student Success
August 5, 2026 • 2:00 – 3:00 PM CT
Presenters:
Dr. James Graham
Institution:
California State University, San Bernardino
Description:
We live in a world of filters—curated feeds, polished images, and carefully crafted narratives. But some realities shouldn’t stay hidden. Across college campuses, many students and peer educators quietly experience disability burnout, the chronic exhaustion that comes from masking, self-advocating, and adapting to systems never designed for them. This form of burnout, common among neurodivergent and disabled individuals, erodes both learning and leadership. Drawing from research on organizational belonging and neurodivergent inclusion (Blau et al., 2023; Graham, 2025; Wolbring & Lillywhite, 2023), this session reframes burnout as a systemic issue of accessibility rather than personal weakness. Through reflection, collaborative analysis, and design activities, participants will examine how academic support programs can recognize, reduce, and prevent disability burnout. Together, we’ll explore practical ways to build peer-learning environments that honor cognitive diversity, sustain authenticity, and help every student, and student leader, thrive without the filter. Intended audience: Peer educators, SI/tutoring program coordinators, faculty, and academic-support administrators.
