The Conference Selection Committee is now accepting conference proposals for the SI Leader Summit and 12th International Conference on Supplemental Instruction. Description

Criteria

Effective SI Practice Interactive Sessions–Professional Staff Track

Interactive, engaging 45-minute sessions regarding effective practices and/or research in SI designed for a predominantly pro staff audience. Sessions may address (but are not limited to) topics such as professional development, mentoring, observations, program innovations/adaptations, session strategies, marketing, recruitment and hiring, online SI, etc.
  • Clear learning objectives
  • Clearly defined structure of the session including opener and closer
  • Description of engagement through audience participation (50% or more interactive time)
  • Interactive activities that promote reflection and application
  • Foundation is rooted in principles of SI as trained through the ICSI/National Centers
  • Demonstration of program-level innovation
  • Description of how the practice or research will change SI and enhance practices
  • Demonstration of how practices can be effective and implemented in other programs

Interactive, engaging 45-minute sessions regarding effective practices in SI designed for a predominantly student leader audience. Sessions may address (but are not limited to) topics such as professional development, mentoring, observations, program innovations/adaptations, session strategies, marketing, recruitment and hiring, online SI, etc.
  • Clear learning objectives
  • Clearly defined structure of the session including opener and closer
  • Description of engagement through audience participation (50% or more interactive time)
  • Interactive activities that promote reflection and application
  • Foundation is rooted in principles of SI as trained through the ICSI/National Centers
  • Demonstration of session-level innovation
  • Demonstration of intentional skill development and how the presenter has made the most of their Leading experience

Lightning Sessions

Lightning Sessions may be pro staff- or student leader-oriented and are abbreviated, 15-minute (total time) discussions with an opportunity for audience participation through Q&A or feedback/input. In a Lightning Session, the presenter may share a concept, including research findings followed by audience questions OR present an idea in process for feedback/discussion among the group.
  • Must contain a well-developed concept or at least preliminary research findings (i.e. research groups developed; methodology refined, etc.)
  • Clear description of desired outcomes–what input/feedback would yield for future exploration
  • Indicate how audience will be engaged

ePoster Presentations

ePoster Presentations are virtual visual displays that can be read/viewed by attendees at various times throughout the conference and interpreted without real-time verbal narrative by the presenter. Accepted ePoster presenters will have one designated time/space designated for questions/interaction with participants.

  • Description of how the practice or research will change SI and enhance practices
  • Description of how practices can be effective and implemented in other programs
