ASCE Student Chapter Receives Letter of Honorable Mention

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student chapter at UMKC recently received a letter of honorable mention for the many activities that they organized and attended.

During the 2013 calendar year, the ASCE student chapter helped organize over 16 unique activities, ranging from a charity golf tournament to highway cleanups.  In addition, they also held several joint meetings with the local ASCE section and Geotech committee.

ASCE President Elect Visits SCE

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) President Elect Randall (Randy) Over, P.E., F.ASCE visited SCE on May 15, 2013. Annually, the ASCE President Elect travels to Kansas City to meet with and address the Greater Kansas City ASCE Section, and while in KC, often stops by UMKC’s School of Computing and Engineering to meet with faculty, students and the dean. According to the ASCE profile, ASCE is America’s oldest engineering society and represents more than 140,000 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide. Continue reading

John Kevern Recognized for Outstanding Activities as Faculty Advisor to UMKC ASCE Student Chapter

Assistant Professor John Kevern has received a Certificate of Commendation for outstanding activities as Faculty Advisor for the UMKC American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter. He was nominated by the UMKC ASCE Student Chapter officers to be commended for his outstanding work and dedication as a faculty advisor in 2011. The ASCE Student Chapter was also honored for their activities in 2011. Congratulations Dr. Kevern and our UMKC ASCE Student Chapter!

ASCE Selects Ganesh Thiagarajan as a 2012 Outstanding Reviewer

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has selected Associate Professor Ganesh Thiagarajan as an ASCE 2012 Outstanding Reviewer. The congratulations letter from ASCE noted, “The reputation that the journal has achieved in no small way reflects the impressive quality of the efforts of our reviewers.” SCE is proud of our faculty’s service to their profession and congratulates Dr. Thiagarajan on being selected. George Voyiadjis, editor of ASCE’s Journal of Nanomechanics and Micromechanics, recommended Dr. Thiagarajan for this honor.
