Delegates of the Canik Başari University of Samsun, Turkey, President Yunus Bekdemir and Chair Ferhat Ozturk, visited UMKC on Monday, April 28, to initiate a student and faculty exchange program between our two universities, with the mediation of Dr. Aydin, Executive Director of the Dialogue Institute of the Southwest. They were warmly welcomed by UMKC Vice Provost and SCE Dean, Kevin Truman, and international student affairs officer, Nigyar Dzhafarova.
The delegates mentioned that they were impressed with the serious investment of UMKC and particularly SCE relative to global engagement. Thus, they believed that this initiative between UMKC and Başarı University will pave the way for opportunities for a meaningful international experience for both universities. Dean Truman, President Bekdemir and Dr. Ozturk agreed to work toward providing opportunities for classes, internships, research experiences or service learning for the students and faculty of both institutions. They have also discussed possible scholarship opportunities for exchange students.
The delegates of Basari University and Dean Truman completed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between our two universities, which will be followed by project-based initiatives starting within the next academic year.
