NSF hosts veterans’ STEM education think tank through UMKC

Several national leaders attended the National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored July 27-28 Transition STEM: A Wounded Warrior Think Tank to examine the needs of veterans with service disabilities returning to higher education for degrees in the STEM fields and how best to support these veterans as they pursue their higher education degrees in STEM. Their recommendations, based on input directly from veterans and organizations that support veterans and the participants’ experience and expertise, will soon be available. For more details see the UMKC Press Release and the Transition STEM webpage. UMKC was asked to host this event via the KC-BANCS grant NSF funded in 2009. Kevin Truman, Dean of the School of Computing and Engineering at UMKC, is co-PI on the KC BANCS grant.
