ACI-KS and ACI-MO Pervious Concrete Student Competition

The American Concrete ACI-KSAggregate
Institute Kansas and Missouri Chapters
piloted a new student competition at
UMKC on October 31, 2009.
The pervious concrete competition
challenged the students to create
sustainable concrete mixtures that
maximized permeability while
maintaining good strength. Eight
regional University teams
participated in the competition.
UMKC’s team placed first in the
strength category with permeability over 1,200 inches per hour. After the successful completion of the pilot competition, ACI national organization has adopted the pervious concrete competition as one of its permanent international student competitions. The first international pervious concrete student competition will debut in Chicago at the ACI Spring Convention in 2010. The UMKC team advisor was Dr. John Kevern.  A slideshow of the contest is available.
