KC-RPDC: Special Education Bootcamp for General Education Teachers
This training is designed to equip general education teachers with the foundational knowledge and practical tools needed to effectively support students receiving special education services from the very first day of school. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the special education process-from referral and evaluation to eligibility and Individualized Education Program (IEP) development, Teachers will also learn how to implement IEPs with fidelity, ensuring legal compliance while meeting the diverse needs of learners. Emphasis will be placed on understanding accommodations versus modifications, documenting support, and maintaining alignment between instruction, assessment, and student goals.so they can confidently navigate their responsibilities within the system.
The session will clarify the critical role general education teachers play in IEP meetings, including how to contribute meaningful academic and behavioral data, collaborate with special education staff, and help shape goals and accommodations that are both appropriate and implementable in the general classroom setting.
In addition, the training will introduce high-impact, inclusive teaching strategies that benefit all learners, including those with disabilities. Topics will include differentiation, scaffolding, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), behavior supports, and practical ways to embed supports seamlessly into everyday instruction.
By the end of the session, participants will feel more confident in their ability to support students with IEPs, collaborate effectively with colleagues and families, and create an inclusive classroom environment where all students can succeed.
