Sherrie McElwee joined the RPDC in 2023 as a Literacy Coach. She is a seasoned educator with a background spanning over 27 years in public education. She began her career with the Hickman Mills school district and worked most recently as the Teaching and Learning Coach for the Early Education program in North Kansas City. As an alumna of the University of Central Missouri, she earned her undergraduate degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and an Education Specialist degree in Administration there. Her professional journey has taken her through various roles, including classroom teacher, district instructional coach, and administrator all at the Early Childhood and Elementary levels. Sherrie’s expertise also includes writing district level curriculum and assessments as well as developing data-driven initiatives and interventions that elevate student literacy outcomes. In her current role as an RPDC Literacy Coach, Sherrie supports teachers as they implement evidence-based practices and exceptional literacy instruction that is grounded in the science of reading. Sherrie currently resides in the Northland with her husband and three boys. She enjoys traveling, crafting, and spending time with family and friends.
