Carrie Turner has over 31 years of experience in special education. She joined the RPDC in July of 2021 as a Sr. Special Education Improvement Consultant. Prior to her work as an improvement consultant, Carrie served for 16 years in special education administration, and 14 years as both a special education coordinator and teacher. In addition to her work in public education, Carrie has served as an adjunct professor for the University of Central Missouri preparing special education teachers for the field, as well as working with graduate students. At the University of Central Missouri, Carrie also serves on the Advisory Board for Special Education, and on the Advisory Board for THRIVE (a program for college students with disabilities to help them live a more independent life). Carrie has been actively involved in special education administration organizations at both the state and international levels for 12 years, serving as Treasurer and the Technology and Communications Chair for the International Council of Administrators of Special Education, a subdivision of the Council of Exceptional Children. She has held the positions of Treasurer, Professional Development Chair, President-Elect, President, Past-President, and Legislative Chair for the Missouri Council of Administrators of Special Education. Carrie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, Elementary Education, and Special Education, from Northwest Missouri State University. She also has a Master’s of Science in Guidance and Counseling, and an Education Specialist in Leadership, Principalship, and Special Education Administration, from the University of Central Missouri. In her free time, Carrie enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
