With weather turning warmer, you may find yourself itching to get outside and enjoy it! Fortunately for us, there’s lots of stuff to do, both on campus and off! Whether it’s taking a walk or a bike ride around campus, tossing a football around in the Quad, or enjoying the Frisbee Golf set-up at Cherry and Rockhill, finding stuff to do on campus is always easy! We are also fortunate enough to be within walking distance of one of Kansas City’s great attractions- the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art.

The Nelson Atkins is a short walk from campus, and provides a huge front lawn to hang out on with your friends. There is tons of room to play games such as Ultimate Frisbee, football, and kickball. There are benches under shady trees to sit on, and sunny spots to throw a blanket down and enjoy the sun. With such a big area, it’s easy to find a secluded spot to enjoy your favorite book, or to get some studying done while soaking up the sun! And don’t forget the classic- a picnic!

Past the front lawn the Nelson Atkins hosts a great sculpture garden, which is another activity you can enjoy outside with your friends. Walk around and enjoy the modern sculpture art. Audio guided tours are available at the front desk inside.

If you enjoy the sculptures, head inside to look at their amazing art collections! The museum itself is free, so it’s a great way to spend the afternoon with a significant other on a budget! The Nelson Atkins hosts 13 different permanent collections of artwork, as well as numerous exhibitions. Although most of the exhibitions are free, a few require tickets- the cost for these is minimal.  Check out their website to learn what their hours are, and to see what their current exhibitions are.
