The UMKC Gallery of Art announces the next exhibition, “We All Come From Something” by Judith G. Levy. The free exhibit runs March 8 through April 6. An Opening Reception is scheduled from 5 ‐ 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 8.

In “We All Come From Something,” the artist reconstructs historical narratives and family stories to show that American culture is complicated and filled with expressions of commonality and contradiction. Levy’s work is animated by images, text and ideological references to explore how perceptions, definitions and concepts are shaped.

The exhibition encompasses mediums ranging from photography and video to neon works and outdoor installations that surround the Fine Arts Building on the UMKC campus. Also included in this exhibition is the Memory Cloud.

Levy, a native New Yorker, has lived in the Midwest for the past 19 years, and worked for many years in public mental health. She has presented solo exhibitions of her work at venues including The Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indiana University, Big Car Gallery in Indianapolis, Soo Visual Arts Center in Minneapolis and Navta Schulz Gallery in Chicago.

The UMKC Gallery of Art is located on the UMKC campus in Room 203 of the Fine Arts Building, 5015 Holmes St. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. through 5 p.m.
