There have been many changes for this semester in terms of transportation and parking! 

One change you may not be used to yet is the new 4-way stop sign at 52^nd Street and Cherry Street (on the corner where Epperson House is).  This is to ensure the safety of both pedestrians and drivers at this extremely busy intersection on campus.

The biggest–and most noticeable–change is the huge pit where the old parking garage was located between Cherry and Oak Streets.  Over the next year, construction of a brand new garage will be on-going…and you can keep tabs on it via webcam! 

Because we’re missing a structure, parking is very different this year.  Remember with your new UMKC OneCard you now have access to the KCATA bus system.  The Transportation Fee was passed by student vote last year, so now the entire city is your campus!  Check out the KCATA website for more information on routes and even use their trip planner to plan your best route.  Also check out the UMKC Transportation website for more tips and options.  Be sure to get the new UMKC Bus Pass App for instant access to routes and schedules right on your smart phone!  And for fun, check out this student-produced video!  Or this news piece from NBC Action News.

If you haven’t already gotten your parking permit, put your name on the Commuter Permit waiting list.  Parking Operations will conduct a lot survey during the second week of classes to determine whether more permits are available.  Remember, meters are $1 per hour and of course street parking is at a premium.  Many of the neighborhoods around UMKC are reserved for residents only–any you may be ticketed by the city for parking in a restricted area.

The City of Kansas City has announced that all four lanes to the Troost Avenue Bridge over Brush Creek have reopened!   However, motorists can expect intermittent lane closures to allow road crews to complete work on medians and outside the roadway throughout the rest of the year.  The Troost Bridge allows easy access to UMKC student services currently located at 4825 Troost, including Student Health and Wellness, Counseling, and Testing services.
