Don’t forget to consent to receive 1098-Ts electronically so that you can receive it as soon as it becomes available instead of waiting for the paper form to come in the mail.

For more information about any tax credits or deductions that you might be eligible for, please visit https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/tax-benefits-for-education-information-center.  UMKC does not provide tax assistance or advice.

Important notice: Effective January 1, 2018, tax law requires all educational institutions to report payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses (QTRE) in Box 1 of the Form 1098-T. Scholarships & Grants awarded during the 2018 calendar year will continue to be shown in Box 5.

Please remember that the amounts listed on your 1098-T form may represent an amount other than the amount actually paid in a given tax year. Please visit the IRS website for more information regarding how to use this form in conjunction with receipts to determine what credits you may be eligible for.

Do you work on campus?  Are you still waiting for your W-2 in the mail?  If you did not sign-up for electronic delivery of your W-2, the form will be mailed to you approximately the last week of January.  You can access your W-2 on-line by providing your e-consent in myHR.

To get your W-2 electronically next year:  Log in to myHR and navigate to “Self Service” then “Payroll and Compensation” and finally to “W-2/W-2c Consent.”  You will receive notice of your W-2 availability as soon as it is ready–no need to wait until it’s ready to mail!

Finally, don’t forget to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)–UMKC’s priority deadline is February 1st!
