safe space trainingUnlike more visible under-represented groups, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and intersex (LGBTQI) persons cannot be readily identified.  Likewise, there is no easy method of identifying allies who are supportive of LGBTQI issues.

As one component of the UMKC LGBTQIA Programs & Services, the Safe Space Training strives to provide a way for understanding and supportive persons within the University community to prominently identify themselves. These students, faculty and staff proudly display a “Safe Space” sign on their doors and in their offices to signify their commitment to serve as a resource and an open ear.

There are two campus-wide Safe Space Trainings per semester open to anyone interested. The next training will take place from 1 – 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6 in the Student Union, room 302.  RSVP by Monday, Nov. 3 via email to  LGBTQIA Programs & Services.
