KC Marathon Street Closures – Oct 15

By , October 11, 2011 8:16 am

The annual Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon, planned for Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., will significantly impact traffic for all residences, businesses and schools located on or adjacent to the race course.

At 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, the Kansas City Police Dept. will begin closing streets along the entire race course.  Streets will re-open as the last runners pass by and all course support materials are removed. Most road closings and detours, however, will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

During the marathon’s peak periods, cars and other vehicles will not be allowed to cross the course. During non-peak periods, if cross the course is necessary, there will be limited opportunities to do so at police patrolled intersections. You can expect crossing at these points to take a considerable amount of time as police will wait for a clear opening in the race before allowing any cars to cross the course.
