“Diversity Includes Me” Campus Discussions

By , April 2, 2013 9:21 am

Diversity is a cornerstone value for UMKC. It is so important to our university, that it is one of five major goals of the Strategic Plan. Reflecting that importance, Chancellor Leo E. Morton formed the Chancellor’s Diversity Council in order to engage our entire campus on this vital issue, and to ensure that our campus is committed to a meaningful plan of actions, outcomes and accountabilities to actualize this goal.

This month, the Council is launching a series of campus discussions on diversity. Our goal is to hear your voices on where we are and, equally importantly, where we need to go as the Council continues to draft specific plans for positive change.  Please take a moment to view this video invitation from Chancellor Morton.

We need you to participate in this effort.

Student input is imperative to the success of our efforts!  We have created several ways for you to share your feelings and ideas – focus groups, online surveys and town halls. These campus conversations are vital to achieving our diversity goals; and for that reason, they are vital to a more inclusive future.

Upcoming Listening & Sharing Sessions:

  • Tuesday, April 2, Hospital Hill – 12:00-1:00 pm, School of Dentistry Room 209
  • Wednesday, April 3, Volker Campus – 12:00–1:00 pm, Student Union Multipurpose Room, 401AB
  • Tuesday, April 9, Volker Campus – 12:00-1:00 pm, Pierson Auditorium

Please bring your Brown Bag lunch and join the conversation.  Drinks provided.

Feel free to email us at UMKCdiversityincludesme@umkc.edu to provide feedback about this effort.  You can also visit our website to read the draft plan, including the five major areas we have identified that need to be addressed.

Please play in a role in this process. Your viewpoints and opinions are important to us, and to the future of UMKC.
