Celebrate Latina/Latino Heritage Month

Join the UMKC Libraries, the Multicultural Student Affairs Office, and Latina/Latino Studies Program for programs and events to celebrate this rich cultural heritage.

Start the month with a panel discussion with UMKC professors Dr. Theresa Torres, Dr. Miguel Carranza, and Stuart Hinds on Oct 9th at Noon in Room 151 of the new Learning Center at Miller Nichols Library.

Discussion points will include Dr. Torres’ book The Paradox of Latina Religious Leadership in the Catholic Church: Las Guadalupanas of Kansas City, Julian Samora, the first Latino Sociologist with a PhD in the US, and library resources that explore Latino History.

Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) is located in the Student Union, 3rd floor and can be reached at 816-235-1109.  Events include:

  • Latino Professionals Panel Discussion on October 8th in the Admin Center Plaza Room at 6pm
  • free Cafe Con Pan on October 15 at MSA from noon-4pm
  • Latino Student Mixer on October 30th at Pierson Auditorium starting 6pm
  • Who Am I? Latino Identity on November 5th in the SGA Chambers at 6pm
