View a retrospective of photographs from 1970 to 2013 by Dr. Gregory Gutenko, UMKC Associate Professor of Communication Studies.  Although he has worked primarily with film and video, photography was his original medium of choice for the recognition of overlooked things and now, coming full circle, he returns to it.

 

2015 UMKC Student Art Exhibition

Student-Art-Exhibition740The UMKC Gallery of Art will host the 2015 UMKC Student Art Exhibition April 30 – July 30. The exhibition features works by 38 graduate and undergraduate artists.

An opening reception will be from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., Thursday, April 30 in Room 203, UMKC Fine Arts Building. Scholarship awards also will be presented during the opening reception.  All currently enrolled students at UMKC were eligible to submit work across a variety of media, including painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, graphic design, video, and performance.

Sarah Walko served as the juror for the 2015 UMKC Student Art Exhibition. Walko is an artist, director, curator and writer. She is currently the program director of Marble House Project, a non-profit arts organization in New York City and Dorset, Vermont. Prior to this position she was the executive director of Triangle Arts Association in New York and curator of Savannah College of Art and Design.

First Annual Student Art Print Sale

Art ShowThe Department of Art & Art History invites you to support our student artists by attending the first annual Student Print Sale Benefit from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19 in the Miller Nichols Library Learning Center lobby.

Come see the creative works of our students and buy a limited edition piece. Cash only will be accepted.

 

New! University Singers open to all students

music notesDo you miss singing in a choir?  But you’re not a Conservatory student?  All students are invited to audition for University Singers–anyone can audition and you do not need to take the choir for class credit in order to participate (unless you need the fine arts credit).

University Singers is made up of 60 Men and Women and sings a wide variety of music, performing in some of the most beautiful spaces in Kansas City, including the stunning Kauffman Center for Performing Arts.  Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings, 7-9pm.

Auditions are required:  Wednesday, November 19th from 3-6pm at Grant Hall, room 322.
