Campus Listening Sessions Report-Out

UMKC Masthead

More than a month ago, we completed the final listening session in a series of four that were held on our two campuses beginning in mid-November. A working group comprised of leadership from students, faculty, staff and administration have been working together to sift through the feedback and ideas that were collected, and to glean out campus priorities from the many recommendations that we received.

We welcome you to attend a follow-up meeting to review the recommendations and hear our proposed next steps on our path forward to greater equity, diversity and inclusion at UMKC.

Please mark your calendars for one of the dates below.

Tuesday, March 15, 2016 – OPEN TO ALL

10 a.m. (School of Medicine, Theater A)

Open Campus Forum

Wednesday, March 16, 2016 – OPEN TO ALL

2 p.m. (Student Union, 401)

Open Campus Forum

At these report-out sessions, we’ll share:

–        ideas upon which we’ve already taken action,

–        ideas that we plan to quickly move into action,

–        overarching themes/priorities that require further planning to create a sustained plan of action.

We are grateful for the honest ideas and feedback shared in the four listening sessions, either in person or via private notecards. As you know, our goal was to create time and opportunity for members of our UMKC community to give voice to, and to listen to, diverse perspectives and experiences about our campus climate in light of recent events at Mizzou in Columbia and throughout the University of Missouri System. We need the continued commitment of each and every one of our community members if we are to move forward toward our ultimate goal of making UMKC a place where each person feels welcome, heard, and respected. Though much hard work is still ahead, working together we will get there.

Sincerely,

Leo E. Morton, Chancellor

Barbara A. Bichelmeyer, Provost
