The University offers a wide variety of services with the goal of helping you be academically successful.  The Academic Support and Mentoring, Writing Studio, Disability Services, and the UMKC Libraries are all specially designed and equipped to help you with whatever your specific needs may be.

The Academic Support and Mentoring, formerly known as the  Center for Academic Development, hosts the Coaching Program, Math and Science Tutoring, the Supplemental Instruction program, and other tutoring that can help you in your classes this semester.  Supplemental Instruction was started at UMKC and is now a global phenomenon!  Students who regularly attend SI sessions for their classes earn on average a half to a full letter grade higher than students who don’t.  Check them out! Academic Support and Mentoring also has a new home in the Student Success Center lobby 201.

Whether you need help with an essay for class, practice writing essays for the WEPT, or just want somewhere new to study, check out the Writing Studio, formerly called the Writing Center. Stop by their new location in the Student Success Center lobby 201,  or visit their website for more information!  They are also still located in the Miller Nichols Library on the 1st floor.

Disability Services offers help and support to students with documented disabilities. Their goal is to work with you and your professors to provide equal access to the learning environment at UMKC. Individual accommodations can include text books in alternate formats, notetakers, and the opportunity to take tests in a quiet room and/or with extended time. If you have questions or need to register, visit their website or call 816-235-5696.

UMKC Libraries  are useful for all the obvious reasons–studying, using the computers, meeting with study groups, practicing your presentations, listening to recordings, and of course doing research.  But when you’re in the library you also have the benefit of helpful librarians, quiet spaces, comfortable chairs and big tables to spread out, and the Robot Cafe.  Be sure to visit the library for all your study needs–but if you can’t get there physically, you can text a librarian with your questions or access LibGuides on a myriad of subjects!
