climate-popupDon’t Forget to Take the Climate Survey!

The designed to gauge how all members of the community experience the current campus climate via an assessment of Learning, Living and Working at UMKC.

The goals of the survey, dubbed “Each Voice Counts,” are multifold: 1) to better understand the current campus climate for working and learning at UMKC; 2) uncover any challenges facing members of our campus community; and 3) to utilize climate survey data to make improvements that will strengthen the campus environment for all.

The survey and more information about this process the can be found at http://info.umkc.edu/climate/.

In addition, all UMKC stakeholders – students, faculty and staff – will be invited to participate in the development of the post-survey action initiatives.

At the end of the survey, participants can choose to enter their names for prize drawings; prizes include book and housing scholarships, parking passes, event tickets and Visa gift cards valued at up to $500. A complete list of prizes is available at http://info.umkc.edu/climate/prizes/.

Because the survey is confidential and hosted on an external site, it must be completed in one sitting. Anyone may fill out a paper version of the survey by contacting the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities. For students with registered disabilities, OSSD may provide additional accommodations to ensure full participation.

The survey is open until November 4, 2016.

Leon Jordan & The Rise of Black Politics in Kansas City

By , October 17, 2016 1:53 pm

leon-jordanThe UMKC Libraries, in partnership with KCUR and the UMKC Friends of the Library, will be exploring the life and work of Leon Jordan as well as his impact on current and future black politics in Kansas City.

Monday, October 24
Miller Nichols Learning Center: Jeannette Nichols Forum
5:30pm Reception, 6pm Event
RSVP Here

Leon Jordan was a well-known and highly respected politician and civil rights leader in Kansas City and Missouri. He has often been hailed as one of the most influential African Americans in Kansas City history and, at the time of his death, the state’s most powerful black politician.

As a prominent member of Kansas City society, Jordan’s infamous murder and the mysteries surrounding it rattled the Kansas City community. But his memory and legacy live on to encourage the continued growth of black social and political leaders in Kansas City and beyond.

Be sure to arrive early or stay after the event to visit the Headlines: Leon Jordan in the Media exhibit on the Ground Floor of the Miller Nichols Library, now through October.

This event and exhibit are brought to you as part of the UMKC Friends of the Library portFOLio Series. For more information, contact Nicole Leone at leoneni@umkc.edu.
