2012 Kansas City Internship Program

Interested in Public Affairs?  The  UMKC Harry S Truman Center is pleased to call to the attention of UMKC students to the 2012 Coro Kansas City Summer Internship Program.  This competitive program carries a stipend of $1,000 and provides a wonderful opportunity to get involved and networked in Kansas City over a 10-week period in the summer working in a variety of governmental, corporate, media, non-profit, and service organizations that are the backbone of our community. The application deadline is November 18, 2011.

Lucerna Now Accepting Submissions

Lucerna, an all-discipline undergraduate journal produced by UMKC students, is now accepting submissions for the 2012 issue!  Having your work published looks great on CVs and graduate school applications and is an excellent opportunity to further your educational endeavors.  Read the 2011 issue here.

Submissions are currently being accepted through March 9th.  Research papers must be between 2000 to 6000 words, be original research completed at UMKC, and must not have been previously published.  Original artwork is also accepted.  Each submission is blind-reviewed by volunteer student readers from the UMKC Honors Program.

Online Transcript Ordering Through Pathway

Ordering copies of your official UMKC transcripts just got a little easier! Transcripts are now available to order online through Pathway (current user name and password are required). To order a transcript, go to Self Service and then select Request a Transcript.  You may request a transcript to be sent by US mail ($7), domestic or international fax ($12), or Federal Express ($32).  Requests can also be held for degrees or grades to be posted for a given semester.  Payment is accepted through electronic check, Visa, MasterCard or Discover.  Please note that if you have a hold on your account preventing the release of a transcript, the system will not accept your request. 

WEPT Preparation and Procedures Seminar

Are you wondering what the WEPT is or when you may need to take the WEPT? This week’s topic is on preparing for the Written English Proficiency Test (WEPT). WEPT is designed to determine academic writing of undergraduate students. The Writing Center will be coming as a guest speaker during this seminar to help students prepare for the WEPT as well as inform students of the process of and procedures before taking the WEPT. In addition to information from the writing center, students will be practicing their skills of MLA citation. The purpose of this seminar is to help students understand the reason of WEPT and to prepare for the test when it comes time for them to take it.

All Seminars will take place in the Student Union room 419.

Next Week’s Seminar: WEPT Policies and Procedures.  Click here for the semester schedule.  Seminars are mandatory for students on financial aid contracts, Bloch Scholars and Osher Scholars.  Each session lasts approximately 50 minutes.  Students must sign in within 10 minutes of the seminar starting to receive credit.
