Do you ever feel like you just do not know how to study or what to study? Do you hate feeling like there is not enough time in the day or you have to pull all-nighters just to get your work done? Do you begin to feel anxious or nervous when a test is coming up? This week’s Academic Success Workshop is covering just that sort of thing. We will discuss various study skills and methods that may help you find the most effective way for you to study. We will also cover time management and how to plan your schedule so there is enough time in the day. Rest and relaxation is more important than one may think. Lastly, we will discuss testing strategies and some helpful hints that may ease the anxiety or stress of upcoming tests. This seminar will help provide resources and hints on how to find your most effective study habits whether it is for a test or just homework in general.

Click here for the semester schedule. Seminars are mandatory for students on financial aid contracts, Bloch Scholars and Osher Scholars. Each session lasts approximately 50 minutes. Students must sign in within 10 minutes of the seminar starting to receive credit.
When first using UMKC’s libraries, you will likely encounter a lot of unfamiliar resources and research options. University libraries have specialized databases and more extensive scholarly collections than most high school, community college, or public libraries. Following a disciplined approach to conducting research is the best way to avoid getting overwhelmed by all the choices.
Need some direction to guide you down the best path? Your friendly neighborhood librarians have created a terrific tool to help! How Do I Start My Research? is a web-based “LibGuide” that contains lots of information and instruction about how to do college-level research. Short videos and written tips will help you to be more confident about completing that assignment. Number One Magazine, UMKC’s student literary magazine, strives to showcase the creative talents of UMKC students from various schools and disciplines. Submissions are being accepted between now and Dec. 1 for our spring 2012 issue. We are accepting submissions of fiction, poetry, visual art, one-act plays, creative nonfiction, etc. Submissions can be e-mailed to numberonemagazine@gmail.com.
