10th Annual Social Justice Book Lecture

Distance BetweenThere is another often untold side to the immigrant experience—of those who get left behind.

Join us to welcome Reyna Grande, author of The Distance Between Us, her memoir of the impact of immigration on her family, for the 10th Annual Social Justice Book Lecture and series.

Grande will speak at 6 pm on Thursday, Oct. 13 in Pierson Auditorium at UMKC’s Atterbury Student Success Center.  Sponsored by the Division of Diversity and Inclusion, the event is free and open to the public.

 

Additional events occurring during the 2016 UMKC Social Justice Series:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 4:  Film screening of “I Learn America” and local stories with the UMKC School of Education, 6-8pm, School of Education Learning Commons.
  • Monday, Oct. 10:  Social Justice Book Discussion with UMKC Libraries, 3:30-5pm, Miller Nichols Library, iX Theatre.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 19:  Undocumented Immigration: A Public Police Debate with UMKC Debate and DEBATE-Kansas City, 6-7pm, Miller Nichols Learning Center, room 151.
  • Thursday, Oct 20:  UMKC Civic Connections Volunteer Fair with the UMKC Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, 11am-2pm, Student Union, room 401.
