RISE as a Confidential Resource
As a confidential resource, RISE will not convey any personally-identifiable information to UMKC’s Title IX Coordinator or any other University officials without your permission and is exempt from Mandated Reporting (link) at UMKC. Therefore, any information you provide to RISE through use of this form will not be considered to have been reported to the University for the purposes of tracking or investigation.
However, in rare situations, RISE may be required to disclose the information shared: 1) when RISE believes there is imminent harm to self or others or 2) as required by law. RISE is also required to share with the University’s Title IX Coordinator (link) and UMKC Police Department (link) de-identified aggregate information regarding reports of any and all possible criminal offenses that occur on-campus or within close proximity of the University as required by the Clery Act (link), including those related to acts of sexual misconduct. As part of this disclosure, RISE must provide as much information as is known about the date and time of the incident, the general location, and the basic nature of the incident.
Though the information shared with RISE is confidential, it is not considered privileged and is therefore subject to disclosure or discovery and can be asked about in testimony as part of a legal proceeding. As such, any individual employed by or volunteering for RISE may be required to share information that is considered confidential under University policy but is not privileged under law.
