UMKC Community Entrepreneurship Program

Launching September 2025, the UMKC Community Entrepreneurship Program, an initiative of the UMKC Bloch Regnier Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, is dedicated to fostering entrepreneurial skills and opportunities within the underserved communities of Kansas City. UMKC has partnered with UPBI (Urban Poverty and Business Initiative) to create the UMKC Community Entrepreneurship Program.

Recognizing the immense potential within these neighborhoods, this program aims to equip individuals with the knowledge, resources, and support necessary to launch and grow their own sustainable ventures.

Our vision is to to cultivate a thriving ecosystem of community-based businesses that generate economic empowerment, create local jobs, and contribute to the overall prosperity of Kansas City’s underprivileged areas.

Who Should Apply

Start up businesses, side hustles, part time businesses, business owners less than a year in business located in Kansas City.

Location & Dates

Trainings are held 8:30am-1:00pm each Saturday from September 6 through October 11, 2025 at the UMKC Innovation Center (4747 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO, 64110).

Program Director

Marvin Carolina, Jr. is a dynamic entrepreneur, speaker, and author with 30+ years in business development and leadership. As a business coach, he empowers professionals through competitive strategies. As a UMKC professor, he inspires growth, inclusion, and excellence in business and entrepreneurship.
