What is the UMKC Roo Card?

The Roo Card is your official identification card. The Roo Card is only valid to enrolled students, employees of UMKC or affiliates.

Who is eligible for a Roo Card?

Students must be enrolled in order to receive a Roo Card. In the case of UMKC employees, employee data must be entered into the University personnel, payroll database and sent to the Roo Card office before a Roo Card will be issued. The Roo Card will not be issued to employees prior to their payroll appointment date. Exceptions to this policy may be made for faculty and affiliates.

How do I get my Roo Card?

A new online photo submission process is now available.  Simply follow the procedures below.  A student must be enrolled in a course before they can access their online account.  If you work for UM Health, please contact the Roo Card Office directly for assistance.

  1. Students, faculty, and staff must log into cbordweb.umkc.edu using your UMKC SSO (enter all lower case) and network password.
    • UMKC SSO – your single sign-on is the first part of your UMKC email account before the @ sign.
    • UMKC Network Password – your password is the same for all UMKC systems.
  2. Click ‘Submit Photo’ from the menu.
    • Photos must be a JPG, JPEG, or PNG file format.
  3. Upload acceptable ID document.   The name on the ID document you submit for verification must match your official name, as it appears in the university databases.
    • ID document must be a US Government-issued photo ID:
      • Driver’s License, or
      • Watermarked copy of a Driver’s License issued until your Driver’s License arrives, or
      • Military ID, or
      • State ID.
    • Other acceptable ID documents:
      • Passport, or
      • Immigration card.
  4. Upload a new photo in accordance with defined photo guidelines below (image must be at least 1kb and at most 1mb).
    • Upload a photo from your computer.
    • Take a photo with your webcam.
    • Take a photo with your mobile device.
  5. Photo is reviewed by Card Office and is approved or rejected.
  6. Email is sent to UMKC email account notifying if accepted or rejected and the reason why.
    • If accepted, your card will be available for pick up from the Roo Card Office.
    • If rejected, must begin again at Step 1.

Photo Guidelines

  • Face forward directly into camera.
  • Use a solid plain white, beige, or light colored background.
  • No head tilts or odd angles.
  • No hats, sunglasses, or other accessories are allowed.
  • Religious head coverings are permitted as long as the face remains viewable for identification purposes.
  • No Snapchat/Instagram filters.  Photo filters and photo shops will not be accepted.
  • Copyrighted photos will not be accepted (senior photos).
  • Only include yourself.  Photos with friends and pets will not be accepted.
  • The photo must be in color, appropriately lit, and in focus.
  • Inappropriate photos that include bitmoji, avatars, nudity, obscene acts, or otherwise violate the Student Code of Conduct will be denied and may be referred to the Office of Student Conduct and Civility.

Some other useful information about the Roo Card:

  • Each student, employee and affiliate is entitled to carry only one active card.
  • Students must be enrolled in order to receive a Roo Card.
  • Benefit eligible employees who are taking classes do not receive a student Roo Card but will receive an employee Roo Card.
  • Individuals appointed as graduate research assistants (GRA) and graduate teaching assistants (GTA) are issued a student Roo Card.
  • Your social security number (SSN) is not entered into the card production system or located on the card.
  • No profiles, hats, headbands, sunglasses etc., will be allowed when your photograph is taken for the Roo Card.
  • The Roo Card is the property of UMKC and is non-transferable. It must be carried at all times and presented and/or surrendered to university officials upon request. Unauthorized use warrants confiscation and/or disciplinary action.

What should I do if my Roo Card is lost or stolen?

If your Roo Card is lost or stolen, go to the Get Funds website to report your card lost or stolen. You must register on Get Funds before you can use the web site.

You may also contact the Roo Card office to have it deactivated. If you should find your card at a later date, please note that only your newest card will be active.
