UMKC selects BNIM Architects and JE Dunn Construction to design and build Bloch Hall building addition

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) announced the selection of the team of BNIM Architects (BNIM) and the JE Dunn Construction Company (Dunn Construction) to design and build the Bloch Hall Building addition, bringing the building one step closer to reality. BNIM has teamed with the Santa Monica, Calif., firm of Moore Ruble Yudell that recently completed the Sloan School of Business addition at MIT. A $32 million gift from Henry W. Bloch will fund the building.

The site will be north of the existing Bloch School of Management building and south of the Student Union. The anticipated size will be approximately 50,000 square feet on three floors, and the proposed site is consistent with the UMKC Volker Campus Master Plan. The building is scheduled to open for the 2013 fall semester.

“BNIM is deeply honored to be designing Bloch Hall for the Henry Bloch School of Management,” said Steve McDowell, FAIA, BNIM Director of Design. “Bloch Hall will be a bridge and gateway for both students and the UMKC community that is deeply rooted in the legacy of the Bloch School and campus, yet stepping boldly into the future.”

“UMKC is an important part of our community, and we look forward to bringing the ideas and techniques that we have learned on other campuses to impact one of the most prominent business schools in the country,” said Greg Lorei, project executive, Dunn Construction.
