UMKC Libraries’ RooSearch provides Google-like ease for discovering scholarly resources

UMKC Libraries is proud to introduce RooSearch, a sophisticated new search engine for identifying and locating library materials. Available to anyone and as easy to use as Google, RooSearch improves upon the popular search engine by targeting then scouring the Libraries’ vast resources in one simple search.

RooSearch results are more relevant to library users than Google search results, because they include additional information available only through UMKC Libraries’ licensed or proprietary databases. In addition, nearly all the items listed through RooSearch are available at or through UMKC.

Even better, RooSearch provides immediate access to full-text articles, books and materials when they are available. Anyone can use this feature when conducting a search on-site from one of UMKC Libraries’ computers. UMKC students, faculty and staff can enjoy this benefit from any computer – on or off campus – after logging in with their UMKC single sign-on IDs. RooSearch is accessed through the UMKC Libraries Web site (http://library.umkc.edu), and is the local installation of Summon – a search product from Serials Solutions.

About UMKC Libraries

UMKC Libraries is comprised of three libraries on the two UMKC campuses and is an essential partner in intellectual discovery, knowledge creation and empowerment while serving as the hub of learning activities for students, researchers and UMKC’s urban neighbors. Miller Nichols Library is UMKC’s largest library and houses the general collection, Music/Media Library, LaBudde Special Collections and Marr Sound Archives. Not only the home of books and print materials, the libraries also provide access to a wide range of audio-visual media, more than 300,000 sound recordings and rare and unique collections of books, photographs, manuscripts and maps. UMKC Libraries also link users to a world of scholarly information available through licensed online databases and journals and a vast network of reciprocal borrowing agreements with libraries around the world. Additionally, the Libraries’ Web-based resources allow researchers to bring the library with them: to the comfortable seating and inviting study spaces found throughout the library buildings, or even their own office, apartment or residence hall room. Just as importantly, the Libraries’ expert librarians and professional staff provide unparalleled research assistance and library services in person, over the phone or via the Internet.
