UMKC Conservatory Introduces the “Folly for Five Miniseries”

Concert series will feature faculty and students from the Conservatory

The University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Conservatory of Music and Dance has teamed up with the historic Folly Theater for a miniseries featuring the Conservatory’s faculty and students.  The series, titled “Folly for Five Miniseries” will include four concerts. Each ticket is only $5.

The miniseries will start up in February, and end in mid-April.

The collaboration will allow Conservatory performers to grace the stage of one of Kansas City’s most celebrated venues.

“The Folly is one of the Heartland’s great concert halls. Founded in 1900, the hall is central to Kansas City’s history and its future. Our performances in Kansas City’s arts district are vital experiences for our students and points of pride for their families and teachers. We are honored to be part of the Folly’s Spring 2014 season and we look forward to a rich partnership together in the decades to come,” said Peter Witte, dean of the Conservatory.

Gale Tallis, executive director of the Folly Theater, said that she is looking forward to the miniseries’ inaugural year.

“Through the years, the Folly Theater has hosted some of the world’s elite performers, such as Dave Brubeck, Renee Fleming, Yo Yo Ma and Kansas City’s own Bobby Watson and Joyce DiDonato. Through our new partnership with the internationally recognized UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, the Folly is privileged to welcome the many talented students who will grace that same stage for many years to come. We see this partnership as a game changer for the Folly’s future, and look forward to the energy that the students will bring to the downtown community,” Tallis said.
