Performance will benefit local and international organizations
Kansas City, Mo. – In collaboration with the 2012 V-Day campaign – a global movement to stop violence against women and girls – the University of Missouri-Kansas City Women’s Center will bring “The Vagina Monologues” and other V-Day events to the campus and Kansas City community.
The benefit performance of “The Vagina Monologues” will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16 at the UMKC Student Union Theater, 5100 Cherry St., Kansas City, Mo. Doors open at 7 p.m. Advance ticket prices are $10 for students and $15 for non-students. At the door, prices are $15 for student and $20 for non-student.
All proceeds benefit the UMKC Violence Prevention and Response Project and V-Day’s 2012 spotlight campaign. This year the spotlight campaign focuses on Haiti. Since the devastating earthquake of 2010, sexual violence against women and girls has been on the rise. Funds raised will provide safe houses for women still living in dangerous conditions in refugee camps.
The 2012 celebration marks 14 years of V-Day events at UMKC, highlighting the need to end violence against women and girls. The movement is active in 130 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and all of North America.
The Women’s Center will sell chocolates and other V-Day items at information tables from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13 at the Hospital Hill Health Sciences Building, 2464 Charlotte.
V-Men Workshop will take place from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, Miller Nichols Library, 800 E. 51st St., Rm. 303. Participants at the MEN-ONLY workshops will hold conversations about ending violence against women and girls.
