Student loan rates nearly double Monday after Congressional inaction

Anyone applying for a new student loan or reapplying for an existing loan as of Monday will see higher interest rates after Congress failed to take action before adjourning for the summer.

Before Monday, the rate for Stafford loans were 3.8 percent. They now have soared to 6.8 percent. Read more.
